Han var medlem av Huset Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, Olav ble født i Storbritannia som sønn av prins Carl av Danmark og prinsesse Maud av Storbritannia . Olav V (born Alexander Edward Christian Frederik, Prince of Denmark on 2 July 1903, died 17 January 1991) was King of Norway from 1957 until his death in 1991. He was a member of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, Olav was born in Britain as the son of Prince Carl of Denmark and Princess Maud of Britain .Alexander Edward Christian Frederik became crown prince and heir to the Norwegian throne when his father was elected king in 1905. He was the first heir to the Norwegian throne who grew up in Norway since Olav IV Håkonsson. 1929 he married Princess Martha of Sweden.Alexander Edward Christian Frederik ble kronprins og tronarving til den norske tronen da hans far ble valgt til konge i 1905. Han var den første tronarving til den norske trone som vokste opp i Norge siden Olav IV Håkonsson. 1929 giftet han seg med prinsesse Märtha av Sverige.
